      In a newspaper, the Wisconsin Territorial Gazette, now the Burlington Evening Gazette, and in another, the Burlington Hawk Eye, were founded; the latter became ' widely known in the years immediately following from the humorous sketches contributed to it by Robert Jones Burdette (b. From toBurlington was the first capital of the Iowa Territory. Burlington's first newspaper, The Wisconsin Territorial Gazette and Burlington Advertiser, was established four years. He married Christiana Dodge, the daughter of territorial governor Henry Dodge, and became territorial librarian.
