    Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sometimes written sodium laurilsulfate, is a synthetic organic compound with the formula C H 3 (CH 2) 11 SO 4 is an anionic surfactant used in many cleaning and hygiene products. This molecule is an organosulfate and a salt. It consists of a carbon tail attached to a sulfate group, that is, it is the sodium salt of dodecyl. The authors have investigated a new chemiluminescence (CL)-based gas sensor made of aluminum oxide ({gamma}-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}) which emits CL during the catalytic oxidation of combustible vapors in air. The CL intensity is proportional to the concentration in the wide region from 1 to ppm of ethanol, butanol and acetone in air.

    Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)-based microfluidic devices are increasing in popularity due to their ease of fabrication and low costs. Despite this, there is a tremendous need for strategies to rapidly and easily tailor the surface properties of these devices. We demonstrate a one-step procedure to covalently link polymers to the surface of PDMS microchannels by ultraviolet graft polymerization. The surface modified AlN powder was then used in aqueous tape casting. A statistical experimental design was employed. A comparative study of aqueous slurries and cast tapes for hydrophobic AlN and Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} was made. The effect of slurry components on slurry viscosity, tensile strength and strain to failure of green tapes was discussed.
